Nowadays everyone wants to keep up with their online social life and status, even when you become a parent, right? In this design, a small screen is placed in a baby’s outfit, which can be navigated through the gray areas of the outfit. The baby will feel like getting all the attention and will not even realize that your focus is on the web; a win-win situation?

“You can ban me, but you can’t stop me”
The virtual alter-ego of Oscar Wagenmans – a Dutch theatre director and actor – SaveMe Oh is an infamous character in Second Life, where she is often labelled as a troll, griefer and even virus. The artistic community of Linden Lab’s virtual world is terrified by the idea that SaveMe Oh could show up unannounced during a vernissage, creating havoc. In the attempt to prevent a possible raid, the sims (or rather her haters) have been trying to protect themselves by banning her since 2007, when Wagenmans first appeared online. SaveMe Oh’s interventions in Second Life disrupt both the social conventions and shared rules of the real world, which are replicated online. Why do people feel obliged to act in Second Life as if they were in IRL, instead of realizing their full creative potential? This is the key question posed by SaveMe Oh.

– quote Gemma Fantacci

Fashion. Take a look at the development of Maartje’s latest collection: use of a 3D pen gives a personal, natural touch to the otherwise geometric perfection of 3D printing. The shimmering materials and metallic effects simulates the look of the minerals and crystals formed over millions of years by the shifting of the earth’s plates. Each design contains about 900 hours of work: a piece of cake compared to the time taken by Mother Earth.

Performance with special Second Life instruments that you can hear only from a certain distance from the avatar who is playing it.

The Avatar Orchestra Metaverse, formed in March, 2007, is a globally dispersed collective of composers, musicians and media artists who meet in the online 3D environment Second Life to investigate and expose new possibilities for developing audiovisual works that challenge conventional practices of perceiving, creating, performing and listening to music. They design and play new otherworldly virtual instruments while experimenting with identity, perception, telepathy and collectivity. Within AOM, a new kind of listening is unfolded, inviting subtle yet powerful connections made audible within a rich and wildly varying audiovisual world. AOM’s ‘instruments’ are created within the Second Life environment, making it possible for each performer in the Orchestra to trigger sounds independent from one another and to play together in real time.

Avatar Orchestra performs regularly in Second Life and in mixed reality events at new media, music and visual arts centres in North America, Europe and Asia.

MULTIPLAYER is a series of looped videos that exploits the aestheticization of violence in desensitized media, such as movies and video games.
It is a worrying fact that the less we react to either a violent movie scene or a video game headshot, the more unbearably desensitized we seem to get.
But it is also a fact that we, common moviegoers and gamers, do not care about it: indeed, we demand for the embellishment of violence. We even cheer for contexts and characters that are morally considered aberrant, like a concealed criminal aiming a gun or a hooded teenager hacking into someone else’s laptop.
With its gamey loops and filmy aesthetic, MULTIPLAYER series exploits the acknowledgment of desensitization, sometimes by condemning, sometimes by endorsing the celebration of violence in our favorite desensitized media.
